“I’m well aware that I can be intense / At the corner of my eye I see you are rolling yours”
The catchy synth riff of Illusions immediately sets an exciting precedent for Faultress’ upcoming debut. The track’s minimal tone and increasingly lush natural soundscapes underpin an emotionally dynamic vocal performance. But the nature of this seemingly straightforward alt-pop piece quickly reveals itself as a ruse masking a deeper, yearning undercurrent: a heart wrestling with existential angst. Musically reminiscent of Kate Bush, Boards of Canada and James Blake, Faultress offers us a left-field, feminine style of electronica in which human vulnerability takes centre stage, and around which electronic and found sounds create an eerie and theatrical scenography.
The result is something of deeply haunting yet uplifting beauty.
