Atmospheric alt-rockers, Dead Slow Hoot are back with their evocative new single ‘Take It or Leave It’, to be released on the 15th February 2024. Recorded live at Vacant TV with rising south london producer Joseph Futak the track is both spacious and warm, starting out with a simple arrangement of guitar and banjo and growing to an orchestral arrangement of scuzzed out guitars and metronomic pianos that sounds like Sigur Ros covering The Microphones.
Melding elements of post-rock, folk, and indie, the band have always straddled genres and have gone to great lengths to challenge themselves to create something unique with every release, all the while tying it all together with a reverence for poetic lyrics and bittersweet stories. ‘Take It or Leave It’ is a beautiful yet melancholic tale about compromise and communion, at once an instruction manual and a kind of stoic love letter making no promises and yet still hopeful.
“In one sense it’s about how a romantic relationship develops over time, making necessary compromises for the good of your partner and growing together through that” singer Hugo explains. “But it’s also about a more general realism, accepting the ‘competing intentions’ that you might have with another person in a space (political, professional etc) and actively engaging with them to make something better.”
‘Take It or Leave It’ will be the lead single from a forthcoming greatest hits album which will also be released on streaming services on the 15th of February 2024.
