A must see for anyone with a hankering for bleak-abilly blues.

James Brute returns this Autumn with a new double A-side single, Ring of Roses//The Garden. Set to drop on 17 November 2023, the release marks the band’s first new recordings since the Lost Soul Music EP in 2019.
James Brute is the band and alter-ego of James Steel, songwriter and frontman of 2000s East London darlings The Brute Chorus. Steel’s musical narratives of love, loss and lust have delved into ever darker and more mysterious regions since the release of the first single Bury Yourself in 2014. The warp and weft of the songs speak to the basest of our human instincts, pulling on themes and characters both ancient and modern; arcane and mundane.
Steel is backed here by a formidable band of long-term collaborators. Their live shows and recordings lend a singularly loose and increasingly heavy vibe to their slung-out and strung-out psychedelic/post-blues style.
Ring of Roses//The Garden was recorded by Sean Woodlock (La Shark, Part Chimp) at Hackney Road Studios and mixed by Olly Betts (The Duke Spirit, Furs, 0h800) at The Crow’s Nest. The single is released on 17 November 2023.
Phenomenal.

A jingling rush that would have headed John Peel’s festive 50.

London band Jessica’s Brother channels the spirit of the Brothers Grimm to create an otherworldly atmosphere, weaving their motley influences together making a rich and eclectic vision, with nods to Silver Jews, Jason Molina, Nick Cave, Richard Thompson and Neil Young.
Decade blending, stylistically flitting through rock history from one song to the next. Tom Charleston is a decent storyteller.

Dead And Well is the solo project of London based Italian musician Luca Rizzardi.
After more than a decade spent playing guitar for several bands in the metal/hardcore scene, Luca set up a small recording studio in his room in 2019, to work on his own project. Little did he know that within a few months he would be locked down in that very place for a hundred days, writing and recording his first album.
The self-produced Quarantine Blues came out in the summer of 2020, followed in 2022 by a second album, For Whom All The Gloom.
Following these initial releases, Dead And Well is shifting from groovy, heavy, full band sounds towards exploring the rhythmic side of the guitar and the work of the old blues songwriters. Preserving his dark and haunting vibe, this pursuit of a new sound has lead to a new collaborative acoustic album, Lay Bare The Ugly, written and recorded in only 8 days with Italian bluesman Wayloz.
